This week, I completed my final project for DS106. I was really intrigued by the thought of doing a quarantine mashup of some sort. I wanted to stick with our theme of “What is (Y)our story” and tell the stories of my co-workers. We are all at different stages in our lives as far as families and school, so I thought it would be interesting to hear how everyone was affected differently by the pandemic and having to stay at home. Our ages range from 18 to 27, so I thought it would make for an interesting comparison of stories. To create my story, I used my iPhone to interview my co-workers and had a set of questions that I tried to ask each person. I strayed from my script a few times based on their answers to dig deeper. For some people I was able to get a lot of information about what they did during quarantine (some was TOO much, thanks Catherine for sharing! Lol), and others I had to kind of pry the information out of them. Once I had the videos, I used iMovie to bring them together. I didn’t just want the videos to skip from one to the other, as I thought that might be too abrupt. I used a free sound from the iMovie app to blend one video to another, and I used this sound throughout the movie in order to make it more cohesive. I also added my own commercials (like we did for our radio show) to kind of separate the video interviews. The commercials were meant to be humorous and bring light to such a sensitive topic (also please do NOT call the number in the commercial, I definitely made it up for the purpose of this assignment). At the end, I added my own quarantine story, to make sure to stick with the class theme. Overall, I enjoyed hearing my co-workers account of quarantine and I hope you enjoy listening to their stories as well!
